NEWS: Saturday, 5/2/98-The posters were gone from the windows. A package of plastic cups lay spilled across the floor. The gates were closed and locked over the doorway. On the door was a sign, NO LIFE, NO REGRETS, THANK YOU FOR THESE THREE YEARS. Thus apparently ends the saga of No Life Records, a store that sold many of the releases heard on 12 O'Clock Rock. Their apparent demise was not totally unexpected. They had gone through many lean times and rumors had repeatedly circulated that they were about to fold. They always denied them, but they always also went through repeated dry spells, where they ordered little or no new records. For the last three weeks I had not bought barely anything there, not because I didn't want to, but because they didn't have anything new for me.
So a chapter in the underground life of Los Angeles music lovers closes. I am personally thankful they were here. They gave us three good years. They never "phased out" vinyl in favor of the higher profit margin CD. They never refused to special order something for me to share with you. They will be missed but they will not be forgotten. --Andrea 'Enthal
